The COREu project is delighted to announce the release of its colouring book,“CoCo’s Journey to a Safe Destination – The Secret of CO₂ Storage”. Created for children, families, teachers, and anyone curious about climate action, the book introduces the world of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) through the adventures of a small CO₂ bubble named CoCo.

Meet CoCo

CoCo is a tiny CO₂ bubble with a big personality. In this illustrated adventure, readers follow CoCo on a journey to understand why excess CO₂ can be a challenge and how scientists are working to manage unavoidable emissions safely with CCS technologies. Along the way, CoCo meets scientists, underwater monitoring technologies, and marine creatures while learning about the different steps involved in CCS.

To celebrate the release of the colouring book, COREu is also launching the “Bring CoCo to Life” Colouring Competition!

We invite creative minds of all ages to add colour to CoCo’s adventure and help bring the story to life through their own artistic interpretations.

Three winners will be selected and will receive a special collection of COREu and CoCo-themed goodies.

Competition Period

The competition period is from now until 31 December 2026.

Who can participate?

The competition is open to participants of all ages. Participants under the age of 18 must obtain permission from a parent or legal guardian before submitting an entry.

How to participate?

1. Download the COREu colouring book “CoCo’s Journey to a Safe Destination – The Secret of CO₂ Storage”.
2. Select ONE colouring page from the book. Print it out if needed.
3. Colour the page however you like.
4. Save your completed artwork as a jpg/png/heic/pdf file. If you are taking a photo of your artwork, make sure to have good lighting to capture your masterpiece.
5. Submit your completed artwork via the online submission form.

• Each participant may submit ONE artwork only.

Winner Selection

• Three winners will be selected by the COREu team based on creativity, originality, and overall presentation.
• Winners will be contacted using the email address provided during submission and will receive a special collection of COREu and CoCo-themed goodies.
• Winners' artworks may be published on COREu channels, including website, social media platforms and printed materials.

COREu is one of the largest research and innovation project in the field of carbon capture and storage (CCS) funded by a European programme. Its goal is to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future, targeting a reduction of 6.8 Mt/year of CO2 by 2035 and 36 Mt/year by 2050. This will be achieved by demonstrating key technologies across the entire CCS value chain in Europe. The project aims to develop new demonstration projects that connect CO2 sources with potential storage sites.
